Boy what garbage. I will not vote for Obama, however ANYONE that Move-on supports lives is NOT worth voting for. Move-on is the most corrupt, socialist whining organization in the free world!

I decided that (all deadheads are for obama). Actually the gathering is to generate support, not loyalty pledges.

Nazi deadheads can stay away. You are "the brown acid."

In all fairness, I don't think anyone is suggesting that "all deadheads" are for Obama. I think its also fair to say that many attendees of this show won't give a damn what Obama stands for, they will be there to see the show. And how many will find themselves unable to find their way a voting place the next day?!?

I do find it interesting that after years of not being openly active in election politics, that the influence of these band members is being brought to bear here.

As far as his campaign funds go, I'm not sure how far a principled stand of shunning corporate money gets you in this media environment. The media doesn't pay attention (meaning lock out of debates, no news coverage of campaign, no invites to Meet the Press)to candidates unable to demonstrate fundraising prowess (see Richardson, Bill or Kucinich, Dennis or Brownback, Sam)regardless of their ideas. If you are serious about getting elected (rather than simply running)it is questionalble strategy to turn down big money contributions. Further, if your rivals are taking in these donations, how can one compete in the absence of such donations? Mind you, I'm not defending the current system - and would prefer one that is completely publicly financed - but it is the system we have, and candidates have to game it in order to win.

Obama isn't taking PAC money. The money coming from business is in the form of individual donations. If you go to www.fec.gov you can see that while he's received donations from individuals employed by Big Pharma (look up by Merck, Pfizer etc), he's not alone in that, by a long shot. Many people are donating to many candiates. I find it interesting that he's received nearly 1/3 of his total from individuals donating less than $200 and approx 45% from those who contribute less than $1000.

For myself, all the candidates I wanted to give my primary vote to have dropped out of the race, and I'm not sure what kind of enthusiasm I have for any one who's left. What's a guy to do, other than stream the show from iclips next week?

Peace,
Dan

The event is entitled "Deadheads for Obama '08". If you doubt this is what is indeed called, check out Phil's site:

According to everything I've read, this is the lineup: Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir will be joined by Jackie Greene, John Molo and Steve Molitz. So, most of current Phil and Friends lineup w/ Bob and Mickey.

Most major media is portraying this as "Grateful Dead reunites for Obama". I tend to doubt, but of course cannot know, that Jerry would have played a show for a political candidate on the eve of a major primary.

Website for web broadcast: http://www.iclips.net/ You do need to sign up, but it is very easy and they've got some great stuff up already and will be showing the new documentary "A Call To Action" soon with folks like Bob Weir, Trey Anastasio and Bela Fleck.

too weird and I gotta say, if Obama is what passes for an inspirational leader, then I really do need to move.

flame away.

Nothing like getting the backing of the Kennedys and the Grateful Dead to help you get that crossover support in the general election...
